Fabien Verschaere
Fabien Verschaere develops a singular work, both tragic and comic, full of hybrid creatures, monsters, and chimeras coming from his unbridled imagination. Calling up the world of circus, of fairytales, of comic books and his own fantasies in a vast organised chaos between fantasy and reality, the artist invites us to look reality though an enigmatic symbolism. Taking his reference in history as well as in history of art, daily life or pop culture, he blends in it apersonal mythology and builds a formal vocabulary in which he takes elements in order to reconfigure new stories because Fabien Verschaere loves to tell stories and we enjoy listening to them.
Fabien Verschaere is a young and promising French artist, born in 1975 in Vincennes. Passionate about drawing, he practices his passion everyday since his childhood.
Then he studied at l’Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris, he graduated in 2000 and in 2001 from l’Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts de Nantes.
Since his graduation, he has exhibited at the Montreal Biennale in 2002, Palais de Tokyo in 2003, La Force de l’Art 02 in 2009, and many other reputable art events, museums and art galleries.
He now lives and works in Paris, France.
Fabien Verschaere’s body of work explores the human condition.
Mingling dream and nightmare, the work of this artist is the world seen through the eyes of a child traumatised by various long stays in hospital.
Using imaginary and fantastic codes, with continuous references to pop culture, he projects the public into a child’s dream, a world inhabited by hybrid creatures; monsters and strange animals, fruit of his imagination. Through these creatures he creates his own mythology: a theatre of emotions and intimate experiences, that seems to be animated by a play of contrasts, between beauty and repulsion, death and life, humour and anguish.
Watercolours, drawings, paintings on canvas, installations and film are some of the techniques to which this artist is faithful. The public is invited to plunge into this dreamlike world.
